Conserving the sloth bears and other wild animals in the Ballari district of Karnataka, Daroji Sloth Bear Sanctuary will soon begin a 22-km safari ride. The sanctuary is said to be keen on increasing tourist footfall, and making them aware about the need and protection of sloth bears. The rides are to be conducted for two hours in the evening (since bears are nocturnal animals) when the expert guide will lead the tour; if requested by the tourists, morning safaris in the sanctuary can also be arranged. It is to be noted that the safari tariff and its timings have not been finalised as of yet.
Daroji Sloth Bear Sanctuary is believed to be the only protected area dedicated to bears in India. The reserve, however is also home to leopards, jackal, boars and jungle cats. During the monsoon season, visitors can also spot star tortoise here. Daroji makes an important place for wildlife photography in India, as photographer from around the country visit here to capture in their lens sloth bears and other animals of drier forests.
